5 Reasons Why I Don’t Use A “Tackle Everything At Once” Approach

Are you looking for ways to improve your baby’s sleep? Do you find yourself scrolling through social media, bombarded by advice that insists you must change every sleep situation for your baby, all at once?

It’s time to take a breath and realise that the “tackle everything at once” approach might not be the best fit for your family.

I’ve been there, just like you. I almost fell into the trap of believing that changing everything at once was the only way to improve a baby’s sleep. But then I stopped, reflected, and realised that it’s not just about what’s best for the baby – it’s about what’s realistic and manageable for both the baby and the mum.

Here are five solid reasons why I don’t advocate for the “tackle everything at once” approach.

Reason 1

Strategic Timing for Success I believe that the best way to initiate change is by focusing on bedtime first. Bedtime is when sleep pressure and the circadian rhythm are at their peak, making it the optimal time to introduce new sleep strategies. Once your little one starts mastering these skills during bedtime, they’ll naturally begin to incorporate them into their nighttime sleep.

Reason 2

Building Incremental Progress Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a healthy sleep routine. By making gradual changes, we set your baby up for success. Each bedtime success becomes a stepping stone to more restful nights. Instead of overwhelming your baby – and yourself – with drastic changes, we prioritise sustainable progress that lasts.

Reason 3

Daytime Sleep Matters Too Ensuring your baby gets enough sleep during the day is a vital component of nighttime success. Over-tiredness can sabotage even the best sleep strategies. That’s why we focus on addressing daytime sleep routines as part of the process. I want to create a foundation of balanced sleep that paves the way for peaceful nights.

Reason 4

Avoiding Overwhelm and Frustration I know that the prospect of overhauling your baby’s sleep habits all at once can be daunting. I want to avoid leaving you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Our approach empowers you to make manageable changes, bringing calm and clarity to your baby’s sleep (fostering a positive environment for both you and your baby.)

Reason 5

Small Steps, Big Impact Let’s celebrate the small victories! My approach involves implementing minor adjustments first, setting the stage for success. These gradual changes have a surprisingly significant impact on sleep quality. By focusing on the details and taking manageable steps, we’re paving the way for restful nights without the pressure of instant transformation.

I believe that successful sleep training is not a one-size-fits-all formula. It’s about working together as a team, understanding your unique family dynamics, and creating a plan that works for both you and your baby. Our mission at Five Star Sleepers is to support you on this journey to manageable nights and joyful days.
